Asha Shetty
"My work does not dictate a story; instead, it invites the viewer into a process of slow looking".
About
Asha Shetty is a Mumbai-based contemporary artist whose work moves between abstraction and figuration. She begins each painting without a fixed story, allowing it to evolve through attention and response.
Her work explores moments of stillness and transition. The figures that appear are not portraits, but quiet presences. Layered colour, texture, and structural forms create a sense of balance between grounding and openness.
Working with acrylic, ink, collage, and mixed media, Asha builds her paintings gradually. She adds, removes, and reworks, leaving traces of the process visible. The interplay between structure and fluid movement is central to her practice.
Her paintings invite slow looking and personal reflection, offering space to pause and connect.
She holds a G.D. Art Diploma from J.K. Academy of Art and Design and completed certificate courses in painting, landscape and portrait at Sir J.J. School of Art. She also completed a postgraduate certificate programme in Indian Aesthetics at Jnana-Pravaha. Her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in India and internationally, including a solo exhibition at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai.
